(Website) – University of Peshawar has become the battle ground and echoed with shrills of cry and fear when the police baton-charged and arrested students united under Mutahida Tulaba Mahaz on campus to protest fee hike by University of Peshawar.

The situation turned tense when heavy contingent of police clashed with the students, leaving several protestors injured. University of Peshawar students expressed their displeasure and discontentment over the administration failure to facilitate students rather has increased annual, semester and hostel fee by 350 percent in last 5 years. Protesting students were of the view that hike in fee for M.Phil and PhD programs is unacceptable as they cannot afford more charges.

According to syndicate a maximum of 10pc can be increased in the fee but the administration in last three years have sky-rocketed the fee to many folds which is unbearable for many of the aspirant students.

After the brawl between the police and the protesting students, many of the students are critically injured with skull, backbone and legs injuries and have been taken to the Khyber Teaching hospital and many of even are being taken into the custody.


On the other hand it is coming from the government sources that an operation is being conducted against the illegal and outsiders living in the university.

KhyberPakhtun Kha spokesperson Shaukat Yousuf Zai said it was regrettable that police had to resort to baton charge but there appears to be more than meets the eye, adding that several political parties patronise the students.

Twitter reacted harshly to the police charge and horrible misconduct against hundreds of students gathers to raise their voice against the fee hike. #PeshawarUniversity and #SaveUoP becam top trend on twitter. 

Along with the condemnation coming from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and other political leadership, social media has been erupted with the condemnation of brutal use of force and weapons against protesting students while many of the affected participants of the sit-n protest, students and other took to the twitter and post the pictures, videos and actual situations on the spot.
