Ready to negotiate with protesting students: Shaukat Yousafzai
The spokesperson said students have illegally occupied more than 300 hostel rooms.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – More than 300 rooms of Peshawar University hostel have been illegally occupied by the students, an official of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government said Thursday.
University administration maintains that fee has been increased after two years and that decision rests with the syndicate, said Shaukat Yousafzai, spokesperson to the KP chief minister.
He said it was regrettable that police had to resort to baton charge but there appears to be more than meets the eye, adding that several political parties patronise the students.
He maintained that students belonging to the Pukhtoon Students Federation and Islami Jamiat-e-Taliba have illegally occupied at least 300 rooms of the university hostel, adding that those with no political affiliation have also illegally occupied 100 rooms.
The spokesperson warned against using the insitution as a hub for political activities and said authorities were ready to negotiate with the protesting students.
Arrested students will be released and perpetrators - even if they include the university administration - would be brought to justice, he added.
