Mehmood Khan's journey towards CM-ship of KP amid controversy
Most of the people seemed in favor of Atif Khan than Mehmood Khan as CM KP.
(Web Desk) – PTI broke silence and announced Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 8. Out of the blue the name of Mehmood Khan surfaced for this crucial post. He was lucky enough to be allocated on this seat as Atif Khan was the most favourite candidate for this post. Till the last moment, Atif Khan was the most favourite one.
Besides Atif Khan, the names of Shah Farman, Asad Qaisar, Mohammad Ishtiaq Urmar and Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra were also circulating but they were not lucky enough. Even ex-CM Pervez Khattat was also in the race but Imran Khan wanted to assign him another responsibility at the federal level. Interestingly, Mehmood Khan as a candidate of CM-ship was suggested by Pervez Khattak. He was announced CM KP in a high-profile session of the senior members of party.

Who is Mehmood Khan?
Mehmood Khan was born in Matta Tehsil of Swat in 1972. He got early education from Government Primary School Matt and then obtained certificate of Matriculation from Peshawar Public School. He did his masters from Agriculture University of Peshawar. From 2007 to 2012, he had been Nazim Union Council Khariri of Tehsil Matta. He is a prominent politician from Swat who elected as MPA on PK 8 in 2013. He held portfolios of sports, culture, and irrigation in the cabinet of Pervez Khattak. He has also been K-P irrigation and interior minister but for a very brief period of time. In general election 2018, he bagged 25,697 votes from PK 8. He is the President of PTI Malakand Division.

Interestingly, Mehmood Khan as a candidate of CM was suggested by Pervez Khattak. He was announced CM KP in a high-profile session of the senior members of party. He has been holding portfolios of sports, culture and irrigation in the cabinet of previous government under Pervez Khattak. He won an MPA seat in general election 2018 from PK 8 Swat by bagging 25,697 votes.

Allegations on new CM KP
Mahmood Khan was probed in corruption charges in the previous term. He was accused of sending Rs1.8 million from the account of department to his personal account. It was fact but he, giving clarification, said that this occurred owing to lack of understanding, and his intentions were clear.
Controversy between Atif Khan and Pervez Khattak
Atif Khan has been Minister Education, Energy & Power and was a strong candidate of CM-ship of KP. He is considered to be a matchless man who did a lot during his tenure. In the controversy between Atif Khan and Pervez Khattak, it was Mehmood Khan who gained benefit. He (Atif Khan) was favoured from every corner. People on social media preferred him over Mehmood Khan.

During this entire campaign, there was information of clashes inside the party which various leaders bluntly rejected, terming it baseless. There was even news that Pervez Khattak and Atif Khan indulged in a verbal fight with each other. It is fact that selection of Mehmood Khan was influenced by Pervez Khattak. Now that Imran Khan has given him the charge of CM, it is hoped he will live up to expectations the party and its supporters attach with him.

CM for Punjab to be announced soon
PTI is yet to announce CM for Punjab as in this province the party seems to be dominant over PML-N. This will be its second yet vital shot. First shot by the captain has been made; let’s see who CM Punjab becomes. Will it be a surprise again or not, only time will explore.
