Lahore: Death sentences delayed in Kot Lakphat, Adiala jail

The execution of death penalty has been delayed due to security issues.

LAHORE (Dunya News)—The execution of death penalty for four terror convicts in Kot Lakhpat jail of Lahore has been delayed on Saturday amid security concerns. Meanwhile, the pending death sentences in Adiala jail of Rawalpindi have also been deferred.

The prisoners on death row would be transferred to other jails. According to sources, the terrorists involved in attacks on Gujrat Army Camp and intelligence agencies in Multan are likely to be hanged on either coming Monday or Tuesday.

Sources have revealed that two of twenty four terrorists on death row in Punjab have been hanged whereas fourteen of them have filed appeals against the death sentences. The prisoners will be executed after the appeals are cancelled. Ten terror convicts on death row are housed in both Lahore and Faisalabad jails. After amendments in prison laws, the prisoners do not necessarily have to be executed at the time of Fajr prayer.

According to sources from Adiala jail, the death sentences have been delayed till the security clearance is granted. Aqeel alias Dr Usman who was to be executed in Adiala jail was instead awarded a death penalty in Faisalabad jail.

The prisoners on death row might also be shifted to other jails. Shahid Saleem, DIG jail said that the hail authorities have not been given directions regarding the execution of terrorists, therefore in order to proceed with the executions, they are awaiting court orders.
