Summary Pakistan has never experienced transparent elections: Sharjeel Memon

KARACHI (Dunya News) -- Sindh Information Secretary Sharjeel Memon ‎while regretting over the current political crisis said that Pakistan ‎has never held free and fair elections, adding that the democratically ‎elected governments have never been able to complete their tenure of 5 ‎years and that elected governments have been ‎dethroned by military coups, several lasting for excruciating decades.‎

Memon said that the government should negotiate with Pakistan ‎Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pakistani Awami ‎Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri instead of using state muscle to ‎suppress them. He said the ruling party should not repeat its mistakes ‎otherwise it would lead to another Model Town tragedy. "We will not ‎tolerate the arrest of protestors and neither will we tolerate any sort of ‎violence upon them," he said.

Memon further reiterated that such  authoritarian measures  have ‎become a huge predicament for people nowadays. He said the right to protest is ‎a fundamental human right guarded by the constitution but on the other ‎hand, Qadri should not mix religion and politics, as they are separate ‎entities.
