Summary Pakistan has never experienced transparent elections: Sharjeel Memon
KARACHI (Dunya News) -- Sindh Information Secretary Sharjeel Memon while regretting over the current political crisis said that Pakistan has never held free and fair elections, adding that the democratically elected governments have never been able to complete their tenure of 5 years and that elected governments have been dethroned by military coups, several lasting for excruciating decades.
Memon said that the government should negotiate with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri instead of using state muscle to suppress them. He said the ruling party should not repeat its mistakes otherwise it would lead to another Model Town tragedy. "We will not tolerate the arrest of protestors and neither will we tolerate any sort of violence upon them," he said.
Memon further reiterated that such authoritarian measures have become a huge predicament for people nowadays. He said the right to protest is a fundamental human right guarded by the constitution but on the other hand, Qadri should not mix religion and politics, as they are separate entities.
