Summary Polls will be held for nine seats of Muzaffarabad Division and 12 refugee seats
MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - Polling for the second phase of AJK Legislative Assembly (LA) elections will be held in Muzaffarabad Division on Sunday (today).
More than a million voters will head to polling stations as Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s electoral battle enters its crucial second phase, with voting scheduled for nine constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats reserved for refugees from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) settled in Pakistan.
The AJK Election Commission said that all arrangements had been completed to ensure peaceful, transparent and fair polling, with election material delivered to all polling stations in the 12 refugee and nine Muzaffarabad, Neelum and Jhelum Valley constituencies.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said polling material was being delivered to the nine constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division in the final stage while polling staff had been dispatched to their respective stations under tight security.
Along with the general constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division, polling will also be held for twelve refugee seats.
Refugees from Jammu & Kashmir have called for the retention of twelve reserved refugee seats stating that these are essential to safeguarding their identity, culture and representation.
Jammu & Kashmir refugees residing in AJK said their identity, representation and commitment to Pakistan are non-negotiable.
They paid tribute to the government and people of Pakistan for their continued support and solidarity.
The refugees said that the people of Pakistan have stood shoulder to shoulder with the Kashmiris through every difficult time and will continue to do so. On the basis of this continued commitment, government of Pakistan has reserved twelve seats to maintain the representation of refugees from Jammu and Kashmir.
