Imran stresses need for holding elections
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan reiterated on Friday that his party would continue its struggle for democracy.
A delegation of journalists called on the deposed premier, during which he said that there would be no compromise in terms of the freedom of the judiciary and constitution.
He reiterated that the only transparent elections could take the country out of the quagmire, adding that he was ready for negotiations, but only according to the constitution and law. Mr Khan further stated, "We will talk with all the parties that will be geared up to stand against the conspiracy".
Firing a broadside at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Mr Khan said, "The PML-N is resorted to the old tactics against the judiciary in a bid to escape the elections."

"I want the nation to get ready to pour onto the streets in connection with defending the supremacy of the constitution, democracy, and law," he added.

Mr Khan urged the lawyer community to play its role in defending the supremacy of the constitution and law, like they did back in 2007.
On Thursday, Mr Khan said that the Supreme Court bench will make no difference to his party.
Taking to Twitter, the deposed premier said, "All we want to know is if elections will be held within the 90 days' constitutional provision. Before we dissolved our two provincial assemblies, I consulted our top constitutional lawyers, all of whom were absolutely clear that the 90-day constitutional provision on holding elections was inviolable."
Slamming the political opponents, Mr Khan said, "Now the imported government of crooks, their handlers, and a compromised Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) are making a complete mockery of constitution. By cherry picking which articles of the constitution they will abide by, they are threatening the very foundation of Pakistan, which is the constitution and rule of law."
"So petrified are they of elections and so desperate to whitewash their convicted leaders that they are prepared to destroy the constitution and any semblance of rule of law," added Mr Khan.
