Lahore Railway workshop closed till April 12 after workers contract coronavirus
In a span of two days, three cases of the virus had been reported in the workshop
LAHORE (Dunya News) – After a few cases of the coronavirus were reported in employees of Lahore Railway workshop, the facility has been closed off till April 12, however, maintenance staff of freight engines in the old diesel engine shed will continue to work.
This announcement was made by Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad and all works managers and supervisors have been made aware of this by railway officials.
According to sources, in a span of two days, three cases of the virus had been reported in the workshop due to which Commissioner Lahore had recommended the closure of workshops to Divisional superintendent workshops Lahore.
According to estimates, over 10,000 workers are employed in Mughalpura workshops; 2,800 in Railway carriage and wagon shop, 1800 in locomotive shop, 800 in railway steel shop, 55 in power house and 500 in railway signal shop. Dunya News has repeatedly reported on the lack of safety measures inside railway workshops.
