KP Assembly: MPA accuses speaker of being biased
Ziaullah Afridi was not granted permission to speak during point of order, he protested afterwards
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly protested against government during the session on Tuesday.
Media reports suggest that Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ziaullah Afridi was not granted permission to speak while point of order segment chaired by Speaker Asad Qaiser who belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI).
The MPA asked to give his views on certain matters for which the speaker refused him. This infuriated the opposition and it started protesting.
“The government is thief”, was a slogan chanted by the opposition of provincial assembly in KP. The house portrayed a picture of noisy fish market with hustle and bustle in which the opposition members of the assembly grouped in front of the speaker’s dice.
However, Ziaullah was granted permission to speak after the opposition protest in which he declared Asad Qaiser biased. The opposition MPA suggested that a speaker’s behavior in the house should be unbiased.
Ziaullah Afridi went on to address the speaker, “You remained silent when I appealed to attend all assembly sessions from jail. My appeals were thrown in a dustbin every time”.
“I support accountability”, commented the MPA while admitting that he was too part of the accountability commission when in cabinet. He further suggested that taking political revenge and defaming the officers is not accountability.
Ziaullah Afridi claimed personal ties of one accountability commission officer with KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak by showing their picture together.
Provincial Minister Shah Farman rebutted, “If there are any recommendations for accountability commission then one should write to us”, while suggesting that any shortcoming in justice must be investigated.
Shah Farman professed that all officers in accountability commission were appointed by the same Director General (DG) who has resigned, thus, he should not be disgraced.
Meanwhile the assembly session was postponed after opposition members pointed towards quorum.
