LAHORE (Dunya News) -- Renowned novelist Abdullah Hussain passed away at the age of 84 after struggling with cancer. The deceased’s funeral has been offered in Lahore, reported Dunya News.

Muhammad Khan, author of ‘udaas naslain’, went by the pen-name of Abdullah Hussain. He was born in 1931 in Rawalpindi. After completing Bsc. he in 1952, he went to work in Mianwali as a chemist in a chemical factory.

His first book, ‘Udaas Naslain’ took 5 years to complete and was published in 1963 which was an instant best seller. The book went on to become one of the best novels in history of Urdu literature and won Adam Jee literature award.

In 1981, he published a compilation of 5 stories and 2 novels named ‘Nashaib’. One of his novel ‘Wapsi ka safar’ was also adapted as a movie.
A drama serial by the name of ‘Brothers in Trouble’ was also aired on BBC which was based on ‘Nashaib’. The serial received positive feedback.

His novel ‘Bhag’ was released 18 years after ‘Udaas Naslain’. His novel ‘Qaid’ and ‘Raat’ were released in 1989 and 1994. In 2012, his voluminous book ‘Nadir Log’ was published.

A rebel by nature, he had announced to the world the ‘rebellion within him’ by reciting Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry.
