Waheeda Shah case: SC stops PS-53 by-election
Supreme Court accepted Waheeda Shah`s appeal in eligibility case.
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the authorities to stop by-election in Sindh Assembly’s PS-53 constituency of Tando Mohammad Khan, Dunya News reported.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, was hearing the case.
After hearing the arguments, the bench issued a stay order for the PS-53 by-election which had been scheduled for December 4.
The bench also admitted Waheeda Shah’s appeal for the hearing.
Waheeda Shah had appealed against the rulings of the Sindh High Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan.
It is worth mentioning here that on Nov 4, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Fakhrudin G. Ebrahim had upheld the disqualification of Shah, a candidate who had slapped an election official during polling on Feb 25 in the by-election of PS-53 constituency.
Shah’s disqualification bars her from being elected as a member of an assembly for two years.
