Akshat Verma revealed that he had approached Fawad Khan for the main lead in Kaalakaandi

(Web Desk) – Kaalakaandi director recently revealed that the Pakistani actor Fawad Khan was his first choice for the main lead instead of Saif Ali Khan.

According to Indian media, Akshat Verma told that he had approached Fawad Khan for Saif’s role in Kaalakaandi, however, the project couldn’t be finalised with Fawad due to certain issues.

Fawad Khan was initially approached for the project way back in 2013, but the movie had slipped from one production house to another. It was taken by Cinestaan after UTV being the original production unit, thus Saif Ali Khan was finalised as the main lead.

Verma said, “Fawad was supposed to be one of the actors we talked to when the project was with UTV. It was around 2013… He was going to play the role Saif plays. But ultimately everything happens for a reason and for the best.”

He added that no one could have done the role better than Saif.

The dark comedy film revolves around several stories including six major characters in Mumbai. Kaalakaandi is about the chronicles of these six strangers who interact with one another during 12 hours. The trailer had been widely praised, however, the movie is unlikely to be for all age groups due to abusive language and love-making scenes.

It is from the makers of Delhi Belly starring Imran Khan which was also a dark comedy. Apart from Saif, the movie has Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi, Deepak Dobriyal, Shenaz Treasury, Vijay Raaz, Sobhita Dhulipala, Isha Talwar, Shivam Patil, Amyra Dastur and Neil Bhoopalam. It will be released next year.
