Prices of food items witness 30 percent surge in Lahore

The prices have witnessed a 30 percent increase from October 16-31.

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – Contrary to government claims regarding lowering the cost of commodities, the prices of various food items including vegetables, fruits, chicken meat and eggs have witnessed a 30 percent increase from October 16-31, however; price of sugar and pulses declined on the retail level.

According to the latest official data, price of potatoes have rose to Rs40 per kg from Rs35 per kg, onion Rs73 per kg from Rs 66 per kg, tomatoes Rs104 per kg from Rs80 per kg, green chilly Rs70 per kg from Rs65 per kg while spinach being sold at ten percent price surge.

Similarly, the prices of carrot and ladyfinger have also been increased by 20 percent and 10 percent respectively while capsicum has touched new peak of Rs85 from Rs90 per kg and turnip Rs40 from Rs38 per kg.

Meanwhile in fruits, dates are available at Rs125 per kg as compared to the previous price of Rs115. Price of grapes have ascended to Rs140 per kg from Rs135, pomegranate kandhari to Rs135 per kg from Rs130, pomegranate bedana to Rs198 per kg from Rs182, pomegranate desi to Rs125 from Rs104.

In the last 15 days of past month, the price of eggs climbed by 14.71 percent per dozen. On October 16, eggs were available at Rs102 per dozen which have now mounted to Rs117.

Moreover, broiler meat is now available at Rs160 per kg after surging from Rs148.
