PTI kickstarts action against defecting MPAs

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has slapped the party’s provincial assembly members (MPAs) with show-cause notices who defected from the party’s direction to vote for Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi during the vote of confidence in the assembly.

The MPAs Momina Waheed and Faisal Farooq Cheema have been directed to appear before the PTI chief Imran Khan in personal capacity on Jan 14. The notice also hints at the proceeding against them under Article 63A of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Article 63A of the Constitution is a complete code in itself, which provides a comprehensive procedure regarding defection of a member of the Parliament and consequences thereof. In case the Election Commission of Pakistan confirms the declaration sent by a Party Head against a member, he/she shall cease to be a member of the House. As a result thereof, his/her seat shall become vacant.
