Karachi to advance without Safe City Project: Blind corruption shut the project
Karachi Safe City Project, if completed successfully, could have curtailed crimes in Karachi.
(Web Desk) – Punjab Safe City Authority was initiated by the government of Punjab with the investment of around Rs13.817 billion. The prime focus of this project was Lahore, the second largest city after Karachi. There are around 8000 cameras that have been installed in the metropolis which are assisting the agencies in curbing the crimes. At this moment, this project has met with half success; the crimes are still occurring in various places unremittingly, but the installed cameras did help in surveillance activities.

Around 500 million rupees have been spared and there is no one who could be held liable for it. Sindh government as usual is unconscious of those who took the money issued for installation of 10,000 cameras.

Ex-Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Allah Dino (AD) Khowaja Sindh Police, for curbing crimes in Karachi, demanded Rs35 billion for this project. Unfortunately corruption at the beginning of this project has marred its efficiency; the idea was conceived well but ended with corruption. Sindh government is all set to close the project.
NAB in action
Keeping in view the prevailing scenario and evident proofs of corruption, National Accountability Bureau has girded up its loins for nabbing the corrupt elements part of this project. Sindh government, on the other side, will have to perform its duties to make the city a secure one. This project was vital keeping in view the rate of crimes, but blind looting has shattered the dream of making metropolitan safe.
NAB has already launched a corruption drive against the corrupt elements. It is hoped that the case the culprits will be caught and justice will served so that this types of projects could be completed in accordance with the hopes of people.
