'Nepotism rocks' costs Varun, Karan and Saif Ali Khan

(Web Desk) – International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) took place over the weekend in New York City and here is all you need to know about the big night and starry events, controversies and notable mentions around it.

Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar hosted the night that was attended by the Mumbai-based stars as well as others.
Here is what you should not miss:

Karan, Saif and Varun chant ‘nepotism rocks’

The hosting duo and Varun Dhawan who had come onstage to collect his award for best actor in comic role for Dishoom chanted ‘nepotism rocks’ after Saif instigated his colleagues by rhetorically asking if Dhawan had won the award because of his father.

Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan responded, and you are here because of your mother to which KJo added, and I am here because of my father.

The trio together then chanted ‘nepotism rocks’ in allegedly all-fun-no-offence remark but received flak after the show on social media.

Sushant’s tweet needs some decryption

The night the big event unfolded, Sushant Singh Rajput, a nominee for ‘M S Dhoni: The Untold Story’ stated “@IIFA hahahaha.”

Social media interpreted the tweet as Singh’s attempt to not agree with IIFA jury for giving the best actor award to Shahid Kapoor for Udta Punjab.

Whatever the tweet meant, fans of cinema, we know, just want to tell Singh that he does not need any award to attest that Dhoni biopic was up to the mark. He took up the project and led it to both box office success and critical acclaim.

Singh! You are a great actor and if IIFA jury thought otherwise, you are at no loss either way. You have won all the way, Sushant.

Having said that, let us not get into Shahid Kapoor being the deserving one or not. Whoever takes the statuettes home, ‘mother cinema’ wins every single time.
