Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor backs Aamir Khan's statement on 'intolerance'

Kareena said that no one can doubt Aamir's patriotism towards India.

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Famous Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan on Saturday has come out in defence of co-star Aamir Khan on his intolerance statement.

Kareena’s statement backing Aamir Khan comes at time when the Bollywood actor is facing severe criticism from various quarters over his remark that his wife Kiran Rao had suggested that they should move out of the country in the wake of recent happenings.

“I don’t think Aamir said anything wrong. He just addressed a fear. It was a conversation with his wife that he was talking about. I don’t think he meant anything damaging by it. Of course, 500,000 opinions followed and as many clarifications were issued,” said Kareena Kapoor.

Kareena said that no one can doubt Aamir’s patriotism towards India.

Earlier, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had also supported Bollywood actor Aamir Khan on his statements on intolerance, stating that the BJP-led government should not "bully or threaten" people who question it.

"Instead of branding all those who question the Govt & Modiji- as unpatriotic, anti national or motivated , the Govt would do better to reach out to people to understand what s disturbing them. That’s the way to solve problems in India, not by bullying, threatening & abusing!" Rahul Gandhi said in a series of tweets.

Speaking at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism awards in New Delhi, Aamir had said that he felt "alarmed" by recent happenings in the country and his wife Kiran Rao had even suggested that they should leave the country.

"When I chat with Kiran at home, she says, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day. That does indicate that there is this sense of growing disquiet, there is growing despondency apart from alarm," Aamir said.

Meanwhile, the BJP took a dig at Kiran Rao‘s suggestion to leave India, saying people move out for many reasons, including for saving taxes.
