PM to inaugurate Pak-China fiber optic project in Gilgit on Thursday

Extraordinary security arrangements have been made in the entire region for the PM's visit

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate the Pak-China fiber optic project in Gilgit tomorrow (May 19). The project will complete in two year s time and will cost around $44 million, reported Dunya News on Wednesday.

Sources indicate that fiber optic cable 820 km in length will be laid between Rawalpindi to Khunjerab. As a result of the project, both countries will have access to alternative international media whereas telecommunication system within Gilgit-Baltistan is also expected to improve a great deal. The agreement in this regards was signed between both countries in 2007 and has now become part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

PM along with inaugurating the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pak-China fiber optic cable project, will also lead the meeting of the Gilgit-Baltistan council and shall take oath from the newly elected members of the council.

Extraordinary security arrangements have been made in this regards in the entire region as all the schools, either public or private, along with the offices that are within the route under the use of the PM shall remain close tomorrow.
