Brad Haddin
Brad Haddin is an Australian wicket keeper batsman of great competence. Making his ODI debut back in 2001 , he became a permanent fixture of the team when his predecessor, Gilchrist retired and he rose to prominence ever since for his performances. A batsman of aggressive mentality and a sound technique , he has raked nearly 3000 runs at a strike rate of more than 80. He has 2 centuries and 16 half centuries to his name. World Cup 2015 is set to be his last appearance at the big stage.
Daniel Vettori
Daniel vettori is an all rounder from New Zealand and is one of the few players who have achieved the duo of 300 test wickets and 3000 test runs. He has been the front line spin bowler of New Zealand for quite some time. He made his debut in 1997 in One Day Internationals and since then he has made his mark on the international stage. His bowling isn’t the only weapon he has in his arsenal. In fact, he is more than a handy lower order batsman that has rescued the kiwi side more often than not in pressure situations.
Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara is a wicket keeper batsman from Sri Lanka. He has often opened the batting in the shorter formats of the game. He was the captain of the Sri Lankan squad in the 2011 World Cup and his world cup performances have been remarkable as well. He has scored over 13000 runs in the One Day Internationals at a strike rate of 77.15 and has notched up 20 centuries and 92 half centuries in a career spanning 15 years. His wicket keeping abilities are above par as well , having taken 392 catches and 96 stumpings to his name.
Mahela Jayawardene
Mahela Jayawardene is a right Sri Lankan batsman who has featured in more than 400 ODIs in a career spanning 18 years. In those ODIs , he has made 12472 runs with 18 centuries and 77 half centuries. He has an average of 33.61 and the number of boundaries he has scored are 1104 while the sixes stand at a figure of 75. He was the captain of the Sri Lankan squad in the 2007 World Cup where he led them to the finals. This is his last World Cup in the blue outfit.
Mashrafe Mortaza
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is a right arm fast medium bowler who plays for Bangladesh. He is the current skipper of Bangladesh ODI team who is in charge of the Bangladeshi camp when it lands Down Under for its World Cup. Mortaza was the first genuine fast bowler from Bangladesh since it was inducted into the test teams in 2000. Injuries have hampered his career and his pace has dropped a notch but he was the part of the playing 11 when it dismantled India in the ICC World Cup 2007. He has 183 ODI wickets to his name at an average of 30.51. He will be Bangladesh’s frontline bowler when he hits the turf next month.
Misbah ul Haq
Misbah Ul Haq is the captain of the Pakistani ODI squad in this edition of World Cup. With 4669 runs in the One Day Internationals at an average of 42.83 , he is the core of the middle order batting of the Pakistani team. His unwavering temperament and his calm approach towards the game are the hallmarks of his career. He has been known to hit aggressively when required and has recently equaled the record of fastest century in a test. Having attained the age of 40 , this looks like the last World Cup edition for the experienced Pakistani skipper.
Mitchell Johnson
Mitchell Johnson is an express pace left arm bowler who plays for Australia. The leader of the bowling pack, in both tests and ODIs, he swings the ball both ways with the red and the white ball. His arsenal contains fiery pace, extricating bounce from pitch and late swing, all of which spell doom when he is on song. 33 years of age, Johnson has hit peak in the recent times and is virtually unplayable in his home turf when the conditions are right. His 221 wickets at the average of 25.72 in the 50 overs format are a proof of his lethality. Not a stranger to late order hitting, he can smack a few if need be. He has a test century to his name as well.
Shahid Afridi
Shahid Khan Afridi is an all rounder who plays for Pakistan. Nicknamed ‘Boom Boom’, he is a fan favorite and a crowd puller in every part of the world. The only player to have a strike rate of more than run a ball after playing at least 200 ODIs , Afridi can turn around a game faster than anybody else on the field. His bowling can be lethal as well and he has claimed 391 wickets at average of 33.89 including 9 five wicket hauls. He is Pakistan’s frontline spinner for the World Cup 2015 . He has announced retirement from all forms of cricket after World Cup 2015.
Tillakaratne Dilshan
Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan is an all rounder from Sri Lanka. His usually opens the batting for his side and is a destructive batsman when in form. His 9183 runs at a strike rate of 85.64 are a witness to the fact. He has made 19 centuries and 41 half centuries in his career. His bowling is an additional component of his game where he has taken 95 wickets in the 50 overs format. Add to that , fierce fielding in the outfields and a backup wicket keeper when called to such a role and he is a gem of a player to have in the side.
Younis Khan
A well known figure at both national and international cricket scene , Younus Khan is a middle order batsman from Pakistan. One of Pakistani team’s modern greats , he has an accomplished career in both ODIs and Tests where he has surpassed the combined 15000 runs barrier. He also led Pakistan to its 2009 T20 World Cup victory. He has 7 centuries and 48 half centuries to his name . He is an athletic fielder who is handy from point to slips. 37 years of age , this world cup is the last chance fans will get to see him in action at the big stage.
