Citizens of Libya are perhaps more than anyone else hoping for a better future in 2012.
2011 saw the north African country in civil war, with opposition forces fighting against long-reigning dictator Muammer Gaddafi. Though Gaddafi was successfully ousted and his forces laid bare, many people died in the war.Photos of Libyas heroic war dead hang in Martyrs Memorial in suburban Tripoli. We are proud of them because they sacrificed their lives for our country, said Ahmad, spokesman of the Martyrs Memorial. In the months since the wars end, positive change seems to be slow-coming for Libya. The country tries to put itself back together when its economy is in shambles during what might prove to be a worldwide recession.Still, many citizens feel what happened in 2011 will pan out to be for the best.Though we did not see any prominent changes yet, we hope for some good changes. At least we realized our freedom, and we can do whatever we want to do. The most important is the changes in our hearts, said a Tripoli citizen. We wish 2012 can be the year of hope, and people can have happy life in 2012. We are optimistic that Libya will be better, said a female citizen.
