Protests break out in Syria against Arab Leagues decision to suspend Syrias activities in AL.
Protests broke out on Saturday in Syria against the Arab Leagues decision to suspend the activities of Syrian delegation in the pan-Arab body.Government supporters sacked the Qatar and Saudi embassies in Damascus, capital of Syria, Tuesday night to protest against the ALs decision.Protestors first gathered in front of the Qatar embassy, chanting the Syrian national anthem. Some angry protestors then attempted to break into the embassys properties. Police responded with tear gas to disperse the angry crowd. The rally shifted to the neighboring Saudi embassy later.Apart from Damascus, protests also broke out in other areas like Aleppo, Homs, Tartus, Latakia and AlHasakah.The Arab League on Saturday decided to suspend the activities of Syrian delegation in the pan-Arab body.The suspension will take effect on Wednesday, or Nov 16, Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jasim al-Thani said in an official statement, after an emergency meeting of foreign ministers in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, where the AL headquarters is based.Meanwhile, the AL statement called for its members to withdraw their ambassadors in Syria and urged sanctions on Damascus until a peace plan it brokered is implemented.Louay Hussein, chief coordinator of the Building the Syrian State Movement noted that the Arab Leagues decision has brought the Syrian situation into a new stage.
