Libya: Anti-government protests continue in Tobruk

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in the eastern Libyan port city of Tobruk on Wednesday to continue protest against the leadership of embattled premier Muammar Gaddafi.

According to the reports, it is stated that anti-government protesters had taken over Tobruk as bursts of celebratory machinegun fire echoed through the streets. Libyan soldiers said they no longer backed Gaddafi and the eastern region was out of his control.Demonstrators rode through the streets of Tobruk waving flags and chanting anti-government slogans. Security forces in Libya have cracked down fiercely on demonstrators across the country, with fighting in Tripoli after it erupted in Libyas oil-producing east last week, in a reaction to decades of repression and following uprisings that have toppled leaders in Tunisia and Egypt.
