Gujrat riots convict allegedly assault Indian female journalist
Revati has accused Suresh of slapping and punching her when she asked her some questions.
AHMEDABAD (Web Desk) – A female journalist in Indian city Ahmedabad was subject of torture on Wednesday over asking a question to a convict in a Gujarat riots case.
The journalist namely Revati Laul is writing a book on the convicts in the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case for which she met Suresh Chhara in his house.
Revati has accused Suresh of slapping and punching her when she asked her some questions during the interview.
"I visited him at his house and I politely asked him if he wanted to share information about himself, his past, family and he, without provocation, started slapping me. He kept on punching me and banged my head to the wall. I somehow managed to flee from the spot," Ms Laul said as reported by NDTV.
She later got treatment at the hospital and also filed a complaint against the incident.
Suresh Chhara was convicted to 31 years in prison in 2013 for his involvement in the Naroda Patiya massacre - one of the bloodiest episodes in the 2002 Gujarat riots - in which around 100 people were killed.
He is out on parole in pursuit of his daughter who has been missing for the last few months.
