A French couple won 8,000 in damages for not respecting their rights to French.
A French couple Michel and Lynda Thibodeau sued Air Canada and won £8,000 in damages for not respecting their right to be served in their mother tongue French.The couple claimed they were not greeted in French when checking in for their flight or at the boarding gate at the airport in Canadian capital Ottawa which damaged their sentiments. Thibodeau sued Air Canada for £350,000 for breach of the Official Languages Act, under which the national airline must provide services in both tongues.The couple argued that it was a violation of their linguistic rights and one has to stand up for his rights. Federal court has ordered it to pay the couple £7,850 in damages and apologize.
