Construction of a new base has begun in China's southwestern Sichuan province for pandas.
The base has been constructed for the pandas evacuated from their original home, which were badly damaged by the disastrous earthquake of May 12, 2008.In three years, the new panda home will be ready at Huangcaoping, 20 kilometers from their former Hetaoping base. The new base, 10 times larger than the old one, will later become a research center for Chinas preservation of pandas. The new base, covered with more vegetation, also has an advantage of being far away from valleys and rivers, effectively preventing potential damage to pandas.A lot of research and feasibility studies had been conducted to ensure that the new base is constructed in a scientific way.
