(Dunya News) – It is not difficult to estimate just how important the social networking website Facebook is during elections or in influencing voters during election year.
In Pakistan, Facebook users account to 32 million. While the total number of voters is 97.8 million, as many as 46.2 million votes were cast during the 2013 elections. The ruling PML-N received 14.8 million votes during the previous elections due to which it came into power.
Votes equal to half of the current Facebook users can be very important for any political party during the upcoming elections. And this number game can be decisive. In the age of social media, where anything can happen, it is premature to predict the outcome of elections especially in Pakistan where the full potential of such social networking platforms is yet to be completely understood.
During the 2018 elections, Facebook can prove to be a vital weapon in electioneering as information related to campaigning may be used to influence voters either positively or negatively.
