Google Pixel 2 XL users report screen burn-in, investigation launched
Flagship phone by the tech giant reportedly caught fire inside the screen causing muddy appearance
(Web Desk) – Google’s flagship phone for this year, Pixel 2, was all good before some users reported screen burn-in experience of using Pixel 2 XL, causing fear amongst the consumers and other potential buyers. The tech giant has stated that it is actively investigating the issue and will notify if anything serious is found.
It all started when a few tech critics took to twitter after noticing a problem with their Pixel 2 XL. Their screens had turned muddy in colour apart from low-light and grainy texture after using for not more than a week.
One of the few initial people who reported were Alex Dobie who tweeted with the photo evidence, “That s some pretty wild OLED burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL after maybe 7 days of full-time use.”

The burn-in also makes the navigation buttons fainted and the screen becomes largely gray. Screen burn-ins happen a lot in modern smartphones as the OLED screen gets burnt from inside. However, it is matter of great worry when such a thing happens to newer models, indicating a faulty product.
When asked to comment, Google said it is actively investigating the problem. The company has told media that Pixel 2 XL screens are made of POLED technology and a long duration of testing is done prior to the launch.
It will be interesting to note how long it takes for the screen burn-ins if the issue is there to stay. Google’s new flagship may suffer from the burn-in threat if more reports are received. Apple’s iPhone X was recently reported to with swollen batteries making the case split open.
Meanwhile, Samsung has learned from the Galaxy Note 7 battery explosions which is why there hasn’t been any report of such incident with the new Galaxy Note 8.
