ABU DHABI (Web Desk) - The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a warning to citizens and expatriates, highlighting the growing threat of fake job advertisements on social media platforms – a warning particularly relevant for Pakistani workers seeking employment in the Gulf.

Each year, thousands of Pakistanis looking for better opportunities abroad fall prey to fraudulent recruitment schemes spread via Facebook, WhatsApp, and other platforms. Victims often suffer significant financial losses, legal entanglements, and emotional distress, affecting not just themselves but families back home.

UAE authorities recently shut down 230 social media accounts found promoting fake employment offers. The government emphasised that advertising recruitment without an official licence is illegal and punishable under the law.

Officials noted that individuals involved in posting fraudulent job advertisements may face fines ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh100,000, along with imprisonment for up to six months.
