ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – A seven-page report submitted to the Supreme Court by Advocate Salman Safdar, appointed as amicus curiae (friend of the court), has detailed the facilities and living conditions of former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The court had directed Safdar to meet the incarcerated PTI founder and submit findings regarding his conditions of detention.
A copy of the report outlines his daily routine, food arrangements, security measures, medical concerns, and available amenities.
Security and Surveillance
According to the report, approximately 10 surveillance cameras are installed in the compound, covering most areas.
Imran Khan did not raise objections to the cameras, stating they were for security purposes.
A 30×12-foot green area is located near the cell, allowing him access to sunlight. The report notes that he expressed satisfaction with security arrangements.
Cell Structure and Living Conditions
The cell contains a single-bed mattress, four pillows, and two blankets.
Personal belongings include around 100 books, a prayer mat, tasbeeh, towels, shaving kit, and five pairs of shoes. Two dumbbells and limited exercise equipment are also present.

The attached toilet measures approximately 4.5 by 4.5 feet and is separated by a five-foot partition wall without a ceiling. A wash basin with hot and cold water is available.
The report observed that while cleanliness arrangements exist, there is room for improvement in sanitary conditions.
Two 2×2-foot ceiling openings provide cross-ventilation, though no exhaust system is installed.
A worker is assigned for laundry and cleaning duties, including maintenance of the washroom and cell.
Imran Khan expressed satisfaction with cleanliness arrangements.
Heating, Cooling and Seasonal Conditions
In winter, a small heater/blower is provided, and hot water is available at all times. During summer, a room cooler is installed.
However, the report states that extreme heat, humidity, mosquitoes and insects make conditions difficult.
Imran Khan reported experiencing food poisoning two to three times during summer months.
He also noted the absence of a refrigerator, stating that only a cool box is available for food storage.
Daily Routine and Exercise
According to the report, Imran Khan wakes for breakfast at around 9:45am, which consists of coffee, porridge, and dates.
He recites the Holy Quran for about an hour and uses available exercise equipment, including an exercise bike and two 9-kilogram weights.
He is allowed access to a walking area within the secured compound at designated times.
From approximately 5:30pm until the following morning, he remains confined to his cell.
Food Arrangements
The report states that Imran Khan selects his weekly meal plan, and the food is self-financed.
The weekly menu includes two days of chicken and two days of meat. Bottled drinking water is provided.
For dinner, he does not consume a full meal and instead takes fruit, milk, and dates. He is not permitted to keep knives, forks, or utensils inside the cell.
Medical Matters
The report states that Imran Khan has been incarcerated for over two years.
He informed the amicus that until October 2025 his eyesight was 6/6, but he later began experiencing blurred vision and partial loss of sight in his right eye, which he said now functions at about 15 percent.
He was informed that a blood clot had affected his eye.
He stated that for three months he was treated with eye drops before being examined by a specialist.
He requested examination by his personal physicians, Dr Faisal Sultan or Dr Asim Yousaf, or another qualified ophthalmologist.
He also stressed the need for regular blood tests considering his age.
During the hearing, the chief justice observed that as a prisoner in state custody, he is entitled to medical facilities available to other inmates, but no extraordinary concessions would be granted.
The Attorney General assured the court that access to an eye specialist and telephonic contact with his sons would be arranged.
The court directed that these arrangements be completed before February 16.
While permission for consultation with an eye specialist was granted, the request for examination in the presence of a family member was declined.
Meetings and Communication
According to the report, Imran Khan stated that for five months he had not been allowed meetings with his lawyers and had limited family contact.
Following a change in jail superintendent, he is now permitted to meet his wife once a week for 30 minutes on Tuesdays.
He also reported that in 2025, he was allowed telephonic contact with his sons, Qasim and Suleman, on two occasions.
