Special prosecutor urges court to cancel PTI chairman’s bail plea
LAHORE (Dunya News) - An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Tuesday reserved its decision on the PTI chairman’s request seeking exemption from attending court hearing in interim bail case.
PTI chairman's lawyer had filed a one-day waiver request in the Jinnah House burning and other arson cases on May 9. The court reserved its decision.
The petition stated that the PTI chairman had been arrested and he was filing his appeal today (Tuesday).
Lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar said they hoped the PTI chairman's sentence would be suspended within a week and he would enjoy freedom soon. The judge remarked during the hearing why he was so optimistic about the hearing of the appeal and suspension of the sentence?
Advocate Burhan Moazzam said the PTI chief wanted to appear in court but circumstances prevented him from doing so. He requested the court to issue production order of the petitioner.
When the judge inquired about government’s stance on the matter, Special Prosecutor Farhad Ali Shah said law was very clear on this. He said court should reject his bail application.
