Rescue teams have safely evacuated more than 900 stranded individuals from the affected area

BAHAWALNAGAR (Dunya News) - River Sutlej over flow broke the protective embankments at the Dullah Akko area of Chishtian tehsil which resulted in flooding of nearby settlements on Saturday.

The extra ordinary flow of water caused a breach in the temporary protective embankment in Dullah Akko area. The breach led to the disruption of the road network leading to several settlements, and floodwater entered the low-lying neighbourhoods causing difficulties for the native residents.

Rescue teams have safely evacuated more than 900 stranded individuals from the inundated area, and further instructions for relocations from affected areas have been issued due to rising water levels. The floods have also caused severe damage to ripened crops.

River Sutluj also over-flowed at Kund Qabil in Arifwala and hence collided with Norath protective embankment. The collision has caused weakening and cracking of the embankment raising fears of its collapse due to erosion from various points. Qasba Chok Marlay and other wide areas are under continuous threat to be submerged in case of any mishap.

The residents of the affected areas exclaim that despite drawing the attention of the district administration, Norath embankment is not being reinforced adequately. They emphasize the need to strengthen the embankment expeditiously.
