Chaudhry Salik meets Nawaz amid rumours of 'revolt' in Punjab
LONDON (Dunya News) – As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans to dissolve assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) - Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain bloc - and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have sprung into action to bring an in-house change in Punjab amid claims that six members of PML-Q - Pervaiz Elahi bloc - are ready to join Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
Amidst latest development, Federal Minister for Board of Investment Chaudhry Salik Hussain on Saturday held an important meeting with Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in London.
The two leaders discussed the matters pertaining to Punjab’s political situation and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) announcement that it would dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.
In a media talk after the meeting with Nawaz Sharif, Mr Salik said the deposed premier did not tell him the exact date of his return to Pakistan. He said that in the next general election, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain would lead the PML-Q’s campaign.
He said Moonis Elahi did not take him into confidence when he joined Imran Khan’s block. "I and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain are ready to talk to Moonis Elahi if he wants," Mr Salik added.
‘Man neck-deep in corruption levels allegations at others’
Earlier, talking to media in London on Saturday, the former prime minister claimed that a conspiracy was hatched to defame the political leaders of Pakistan and urged the people to ponder over deeds and corruption of the PTI leaders. Mr Sharif, while claiming that more evidence against Imran Khan in the Billion Tree project and Al-Qadir Trust case would surface, said corruption of more than Rs50 billion was committed in these projects while the poor masses were struggling to even get minimum wage of Rs20,000.
Mr Sharif asked Imran Khan, Shahzad Akbar and other party leaders to hand their head in shame for demonising the political personalities of the country.
A day earlier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said the PML-N had begun preparations to “welcome” former premier Nawaz Sharif, in the hope that return would tip the results in the party’s favour if an election were to be held in Punjab.
Mr Sharif has been living in London since November 2019 after he was allowed to leave the country for medical treatment.
The PML-N supremo went on to say that the British tabloid has apologised over lack of evidence against Shehbaz Sharif, adding that it was proof of innocence.
Sharif said that former adviser to PM on accountability Shahzad Akhbar had levelled allegations of money laundering, corruption, kickbacks and commission on PM Shehbaz at the behest of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan but British National Crime Agency (NCA) has given him [Shehbaz Sharif] clean chit after investigation.
