PTI, PMLQ leadership terms Punjab Assembly Session at Aiwan-e-Iqbal unconstitutional
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Assembly speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on Wednesday said that the Deputy Speaker cannot convene a session of the Assembly because in the presence of Speaker, Governor cannot direct the deputy speaker to summon the session, today’s session was unconstitutional.
Talking to Media, Pervaiz Elahi along with the PTI leaders said that the Assembly is an institution but the incumbent leaders want to weaken it, adding that they should be ashamed of what they did today.
Speaker Punjab Assembly further said that Punjab Governor has violated the sanctity of the House while Atta Tarar also made inappropriate gestures. Has he honored the vote today? This is how they are following Nawaz Sharif’s narrative to “respect the vote”, Elahi said.
PTI leader Mian Mahmood-Ur-Rasheed said that they will go to the Election Commission and court to de-seat the Deputy Speaker.
Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) leader and former Punjab law minister Raja Basharat added that all the three actions of the governor were unconstitutional and the ordinance cannot be issued after a session of the Assembly has been convened, he said.
He further said that matters were being handled illegally. The government left the assembly and went to Aiwan-e-Iqbal. Raja Basharat added that we can t stand this situation for long. We would like clarity from the judiciary.
