Wheat procurement target missed

Punjab Government could not meet the target of procurement of wheat.

So far, the PASCO failed to achieve the target of1.1 million tonnes out of 1.3 million tonnes. Officials of Food Department told that CM Shahbaz Sharif had claimed to procure 4 million tonnes of wheat whereas only 3.2 million tonnes wheat could be purchased till May 31 with the cost of Rs79 billion. High ups further said that they had stopped issuance of wheat bags to the farmers. PASCO representatives are of the opinion that they would like to procure 1.3 million tonnes wheat throughout four provinces but till now, they have succeeded in procuring only 1.1 million.
