Photo journalism: Exhibition in Islamabad honors work of journalists
Sometimes photo conveys a complete message which cannot be conveyed otherwise.
(Web Desk) – One-day photographic exhibition was held in Islamabad under the auspicious of International Photographic Council (IPC). The exhibition was inaugurated by Federal Minister for National Health Services Amir Mehmood Kiyani, the purpose of which was to promote the national culture and peace. Artwork of around 70 Pakistani and 26 international journalists was presented.
Talking to the Dunya News, one of the photo journalists said journalists are frontline peace workers. For completing these pieces perfectly, they have been prepared by standing under sun for many hours. Our demand is that the government should promote them.
Photo journalists should also be given the peace prizes as they work for peace. Interestingly, this year seven awards have been bestowed, another added.
Another one was of the view that for doing this work, the government should give more financial resources. These journalists are mirror of the society and should be backed by the government to the extent possible.
Journalism in Pakistan
Pakistan, unfortunately, is not considered a safe country for journalists. There are multiple hurdles that they have to face, from censorship to death threats, in the line of duty. World Press Freedom Index of Reporters Without Borders has ranked Pakistan at 139 out of 180 countries. I t is quite a disturbing fact. There is a dire need to deem over safety of journalists as without this our society will remain blind and social issues will remain neglected.
