(Web Desk) – The recent case of 40-year-old activist Raza Mahmood Khan, who went missing in Lahore last week, has once again raised concerns over the issue of missing persons across the country.
The case has stirred rights activist across Pakistan with the issue also making its way on social media, with hashtags including #FindRaza trending on Twitter.
On Friday, human rights activists along with the family of Khan demanded that the government ensure the safe release of Raza Mahmood Khan. A member of the Aghaz-e-Dosti organisation, Khan is known for his activism particularly in regards to advocating friendly ties between Pakistan and India.
According to brother, Hamid Nasir, Khan had been abducted from Lahore last Saturday after attending an open discussion event on the topic of extremism following the recent Faizabad debacle. During a press conference held at the Lahore Press Club on Friday he said that their family had no enmity and that his brother had never received any kind of threat.
Nasir said that his brother was a peace loving and law abiding citizen. He added that the police had registered a kidnapping case against unidentified suspects and that they were cooperating with the family. He also said that the CPU of his brother’s computer was the only thing that was missing from the apartment.
“Raza Khan is not someone who is very influential. He belonged to a very humble background,” said Saeeda Diep, a social activist. Meanwhile, a demonstration is also being planned outside the press club on Monday to protest against the abduction of Raza Khan.
