KP govt approves compulsory education bill 2017
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa govt attempts at making primary, secondary education mandatory for children
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Compulsory education bill 2017 was presented in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government on Monday. According to this bill, compulsion of education will be enforced for all children in the age group 5-16.
This means that children will acquire primary and secondary education in educational institutes. The bill, which has been approved by KP government in cabinet, obligates parents throughout the province to admit their children in schools.
In case of violation, parents will fined up to Rs. 100 per day and spend a month in jail. If children are not going to schools then their parents will be considered responsible.
However, if the child is sick, disabled, mentally challenged or resides far away from the school only then the restrictions will be relaxed. Even the opposition in KP assembly has welcomed the bill with open arms.
The main objective of compulsory education bill is to make more and more children acquire formal education at primary and secondary level.
