The Lahore High Court (LHC) prevented any amendment in Blasphemy law until the judicial ruling is finally out, Dunya News reported on Monday. The court said the Law could not be presented at the National Assembly floor till the court decides a case on the topic. During the course of hearing, advocate Azizal Amir told the court that PPP member Sherry Rehman submitted amendment draft in the NA regarding the said laws. The court ruled on a petition filed by a citizen that no amendment be made in blasphemy law until the court delivers verdict on the case. The petitioner also added that under the Constitution and Federal Shariah Court, the blasphemy laws could not be amended. In 1991,a full bench of Federal Shariah Court put death as the only penalty for blasphemy in the state.
