Government offices witness thin attendance before Eid holidays

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Attendance in government offices across the country was less than usual on Monday.

The offices in Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta and other cities were deserted as the employees went on holidays a day before they were to be started.

In many offices, the employees left after marking their attendance whereas in some the sub-ordinate staff was present but the higher officials weren’t.

90% of employees in various departments including Punjab and Sindh Civil Secretariat remained absent.

In Peshawar, departments of Communication and Works (CNW), local body and education were also emptied.

The Ministry of Interior has notified four public holidays from July 5th (Tuesday) to July 8th (Friday) on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, with two weekly off days, the government employees will enjoy six holidays.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the religious festival of Muslims, is celebrated on the first of Shawwal according to the Muslim Hijri calendar, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramazan.

Eid in Pakistan is likely to fall on July 6, the Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department said.
