KP's PK-8 Peshawar by-election to be held today

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – By-election for the PK-8 Peshawar seat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly will be held today (Thursday). Army along with police personnel will be deployed both inside and outside the polling stations. The election will be contested by candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). The vacancy opened after PML-N’s MPA Arbab Akbar Hayat passed away.
According to the details, PTI will manage a ‘clean-sweep’ in Peshawar if emerges successful in the election. Due to this, preparations for the polls were finalised with vigor and enthusiasm.
Meanwhile Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) have already withdrawn in favour of PTI. In light of these withdrawals, a strong contest between PTI’s candidate Shehzad Khan and JUI’s Asif Iqbal is now expected. However, residents of PK-8 do not appear to be particularly satisfied by the former candidate.
On the other hand, candidates of PPP and Awami National Party (ANP) are also hopeful of winning the constituency.
Police earlier finalised its security preparations for the by-election. Out of 98, 40 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive, 47 sensitive while 11 have been declared to be normal.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, a strict security setup has been formulated. He added that more than 5000 police officers have been designated for the polls.
More than 1,36000 people of the constituency will exercise their voting rights during pollling.
