World Tuberculosis Day being observed today

More than 9 lac people are suffering from the disease in Pakistan.
LAHORE (Web Desk) – World Tuberculosis Day is being observed today (Thursday) across the world to build public awareness and intensify efforts against TB.
More than 9 lac people are suffering from the disease in Pakistan while TB also takes lives of over 70,000 people every year.
The country is proactively responding to ensure the steps for effective overcome of Tuberculosis by acting on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. For this purpose, a National Strategic Plan for TB has also been formed.
The health experts stated that the ailment can be prevented with great care and some precautionary measures.
The health ministry has been directed to take TB as major health challenge and to prepare strategies for its control. The government has stated that increasing number of TB patients is alarming and needs great attention.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease usually caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It generally affects the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body.
The classic symptoms of active TB are a chronic cough with blood-containing sputum, fever, night sweats, and weight loss.
