Reduction in fares up-to 12% announced for non-AC intra-city and inter-city buses in Punjab

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Negotiations between Punjab government and transport owners in order to provide relief to the public of the province in regards to the recent reduction in oil prices has proven to be a success, reported Dunya News.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Yaseen led the government’s delegation for the talks with the transport owners. Reduction of fares up-to 6.16% for intra-city and inter-city non-air conditioned (AC) diesel transport vehicles that operate within Punjab was announced. A deduction of fares up-to 11.9% was also decided for vehicles that run on petrol.

All-Pakistan Transport Owner Federation and owners of air-conditioned transport vehicles have also announced to comply with the government’s decision to reduce the fares. Bilal Yaseen has instructed the District Coordination Officers (DCO) across the province to do raids ensuring that the decision regarding the reduction in transportation fares was being implemented. 

Public transportation fares in Sindh have also been reduced. Fares from Karachi to Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad have been reduced by Rs 200 per passenger. A reduction of Rs 100 in fares has taken place for travel within Sindh.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also followed the trend and has announced a reduction in public transportation fares. Deduction by Rs 12 and Rs 27 have taken place for travelling from Peshawar to Kohat and from Peshawar to Bannu whereas travel cost from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan has been reduced by Rs 47.
