Indian-held Kashmir shuts down in protest against beef ban
All shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the road.
SRINAGAR (Web Desk) – A complete shutter-down strike is being observed in Indian Occupied Kashmir today (Saturday) against the anti-Muslim ruling of the High Court banning sale of beef and cow slaughter in the territory.
Call for the shutdown has been given by the veteran Kashmiri leader, Syed Ali Gilani, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and supported by other Hurriyat leaders and religious organizations.
All shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the road.
Indian authorities have imposed restrictions in Srinagar and deployed troops and police personnel in strength in other towns to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the court verdict.
The authorities continue to put under detention Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Zafar Akbar Butt, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Showkat Ahmed Bakhshi, Qazi Yasir Ahmad, Ayaz Akbar and Raja Merajuddin in their houses and police stations to prevent them from leading the demonstrations.
Dozens of people were injured, yesterday, when Indian troops and police personnel used force against the protesters at different places in the occupied territory.
