Federal govt to bear biometric system expenses in KP

Election Commission has decided to put the responsibility of expenditure on federal government
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided that federal government will bear the expenses of biometric system in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP). Interim Chief Election Commissioner Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali presided over a meeting on Friday in which it was decided that biometric system in KP requires Rs. 2.5 billion. ECP says that federal government will bear the expenses for biometric system in KP, Dunya News reported.
On the other hand, ECP says that holding local body elections in KP under biometric system is impossible before September 2015. ECP has decided to move Supreme Court regarding this issue. ECP spokesperson said that the Supreme Court will be informed that local body elections in KP under biometric system are impossible before September 2015 because several months are required for buying biometric machines and making them work throughout the province. Elections can be held in April 2015 without biometric system, spokesperson told. The spokesperson said that if the demand by Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan gets accepted, the election can only be held in September next year.
