Rs 62 billion AJK budget presented

Ten percent raise has been given to employees and pensioners in the budget.

MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News/Web Desk) - Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) budget with a total outlay of 62 billion rupees was presented in the legislative assembly here on Friday (June 20).

Presenting the budget, AJK Finance Minister Chaudhry Latif Akbar said 10.50 billion rupees are being allocated for the development and 51.50 billion rupees for non-development expenditures.

Ten percent raise has been given to employees and pensioners in the budget.

Budget proposed allocation of Rs 850 million for local government and rural health while 330 million have been proposed for physical planning and housing.

Rs 550 million have been proposed for electricity, Rs 680 million for hydal power, Rs 400 million for education and Rs 820 million for educational development.

The budget proposes Rs 50 million for the construction of hospitals and basic health centres, Rs 24.6 million for environment, Rs 115 million for tourism, Rs 48 million for transport.

Meanwhile, Rs 20 million has been proposed for special children, Rs 15 million for social welfare and women development while Rs 155 million has been proposed for sports, culture and youth affairs and Rs 110 million has been allocated for settlement of refugees.

The Budget document set target of raising Rs 14 billion through internal resources of the state, Rs 12 billion through Kashmir Council income.

Target of completion of 187 projects has been proposed to achieve during new fiscal year.

Around 300 laptops would be distributed among students of AJK under Prime Minister of Pakistan’s scheme.
