Mamnoon elected new president with thumping majority

CEC Tuesday declared PML-N candidate Mamnoon Hussain successful in presidential election.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N ) candidate Mamnoon Hussain  secured 746 votes out of total 878 valid votes  as compared to his opponent Justice (retd) Wajihuddin of PTI who managed to get only 132 votes.

 

According to unofficial results‚ Mamnoon Hussain secured 277 votes and Wajihuddin bagged 34 votes in the National Assembly.

 

Mamnoon Hussain secured 64 votes whereas retired Justice Wajihuddin Ahmad got five votes in Sindh Assembly.

 

In Balochistan Assembly‚ Mamnoon Hussain got 55 votes and Wajihuddin secured only one vote.

 

In Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa Assembly‚ Wajihuddin secured 69 votes whereas Mamnoon Hussain bagged 41 votes.

 

The electoral college of Presidential Election was allowed to cast their votes between 10 am. to 3 pm.

 

PPP‚ ANP and BNP Awami did not participate in the election in protest against the Supreme Court s decision of advancing the polling date. PML-Q also bocotted the process at the centre but its members took part in voting in Balochistan Assembly and supported PML-N candidate.

 

Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court and chief Justices of concerned High Courts conducted the polling process at all five polling stations.

 

It is expected that the Commission will announce official results by this evening and the new President will take oath of his office on the 9th of September on the completion of five years term by incumbent President Asif Ali Zardari.
