Deadlock persists over caretaker PM slot

Appointing a caretaker prime minister is not as simple as it seems.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - It is final day for Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and the leader of the opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to reach consensus over the nomination of caretaker Prime Minister to oversee upcoming general elections.
As per details‚ both parties have differences on the proposed names.
The PPP-led government completed its five-year term on March 16 and the prime minister and leader of opposition have to choose the caretaker premier by today (Tuesday).
However‚ if no consensus developed‚ an eight-member parliamentary committee nominated by National Assembly Speaker will try to resolve the matter within next three days.
If the committee too fails to choose a candidate, the names will be referred to the Chief Election Commissioner for a final decision by March 24.
