Its screening draws a full house at NAPA
KARACHI (Web Desk) - The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) and the Climate Action Centre (CAC) jointly launched CAC’s Imagining Life project on Sunday with the screening of Indus Echoes, the first Sindhi-language feature film produced in Pakistan in 28 years.
According to a press release, Indus Echoes will have its nationwide theatrical release on September 12.
Written and directed by Rahul Aijaz, Indus Echoes presents an evocative tapestry of interwoven stories of farmers, poets, fishermen, lovers, and the river itself, capturing humanity’s complex and often conflicted relationship with the Indus River.
The screening drew a full house, with the audience responding enthusiastically and giving the film a strong endorsement at its conclusion.
Following the screening, a panel discussion was held where filmmaker Rahul Aijaz reflected on the creative process behind the film. He shared that poetry had always helped him articulate his thoughts.
“English is as much my first language as Sindhi,” he noted, adding that he conceived the title in English before translating it into Sindhi. The film itself, however, was conceived and created entirely in Sindhi, with English subtitles added later.
Journalist and activist Afaq Bhatti offered a passionate critique of the environmental degradation of the Indus River.
