LAHORE (Dunya News) – Cricketer Umar Akmal in a television show has claimed that the spot-fixing allegations against him have never been proved, lamenting he does not know why he is out of the national team.

Conversing with Imran Ashraf, the host of Mazaq Raat - a Dunya News production, Umar Akmal said it was disturbing to keep him in confinement for 24 hours during PSL on the allegations that he was involved in spot-fixing.

“They forced me to stay in a room. They did not allow my wife and kids to meet me. My kids kept weeping standing at the door of the room where I was confined. I was unable to tell them what was happing with me,” the sportsman said.

On asking why he was kept in confinement, Umer Akmal said, “Actually, they were forcing me to accept the spot-fixing allegations. They said if I accept the allegations, I would face a ban only for three months and rejoin the team. I told them I am ready to face lifetime ban, if they prove the proofs against me.”

Amidst applauds from the audience at the show, Akmal said he told them he was willing to leave the country and apologise to the fans if they prove spot-fixing allegations, but they failed to come up with proofs against him, the star added.

When the host asked him about the possibility of staging a comeback to the national team, Akmal said he was hopeful that he would soon rejoin the national team because he was playing domestic cricket with dedication and showing good performance.

"I am playing good domestic cricket. But I don’t know why I am being kept out of the national team. I never let my country down. I deserve another chance to play in national team," he said.
