LAHORE (Web Desk) - The dream of Chahat Fateh Ali Khan to contest the polls was shattered as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected his nomination papers.

The social media sensation requested the lawmakers and the ECP to allow the dual nationals to contest the polls.

Chahat released a video on X, formally Twitter, in which he said that his nomination papers were rejected for holding dual citizenship.

“The Returning Officer rejected my nomination papers during the scrutiny process,” the singer said.

Every Pakistani can hold dual citizenship according to the constitution and therefore, they should also be allowed to contest the polls, he added.

The artiste said in the video that the expatriates contribute a lot to the economy of Pakistan by sending millions of rupees every month.

They should be allowed to contest the elections through some special legislation, he said.

Earlier, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan had filed his papers for the upcoming National Assembly elections from NA-128, Lahore.

Chahat, who has over 1.9 million YouTube subscribers, has made a somewhat comical name for himself with his unmelodious songs and viral videos.
